You can also say that your grades depend on your pre-evening routine. The following are the most effective things that you must do at night before giving your exam:

1. Take Your Own Exam:

The very first thing that you must do is take your own exam. You can review some past papers and write the most repeated or most important questions on a blank page. Set the timer and answer those questions without opening your textbook. Once done, check your answers and grade yourself. This will help you identify your weak as well as strong areas. This means that you will understand which areas need more practice and which areas don’t. You can also ask one of your family members to take your test and grade you. This will help you get better and more honest feedback. You can also use your CIPD Level 7 Assignments in your preparation.

2. Don’t Learn Anything New:

On top of that, you must not learn anything new. Well, this is one of the tips that I used to ignore. The result? It tanked my grades! Was it a good decision? Absolutely not! So, if you are also making the same mistake, then you should stop right now. Learning new things, especially the night before an exam, often confuses students.

The CIPD qualifications are generally considered pretty hard. You have to understand complex HR theories and apply them in real-world HR scenarios. When you cram anything new, you tend to forget the previous information. Also, cramming is not considered very effective. Therefore, if you don’t want to bomb your exam, just avoid it! But what can you do instead? You can revise the things that you have already studied, practice past papers, and make flashcards to review in the morning. This will help you review crucial things in seconds.

3. Use the Pomodoro Technique:

Now, many CIPD students also struggle with finding the right technique that they can use to revise for their exam without getting burned out. Well, you don’t have to worry about finding the right method. For all my CIPD exams, I have always used the Pomodoro technique, and it works wonders for me. But what is the Pomodoro technique actually? Well, it is a highly effective time management method that allows you to study with full focus for 25 minutes and take a 5-minute break. This will help boost your productivity without feeling drained. Apart from the Pomodoro technique, you can also use these methods:

Flashcards

Active recall

Blurting method

Mind maps

4. Don’t Take Caffeine:

Many students often consume a large amount of caffeine to pull all-nighters. Is this effective? Not at all! In fact, taking caffeine at night can not only disrupt your sleep but also increase anxiety. This means that you might not be able to do well in your exam even if you have studied everything. Instead of caffeine, you can take:

Peppermint tea

Smoothies (strawberry, banana)

Lemon and honey tea

5. Manage Your Time Efficiently:

Another important thing is to manage your time efficiently. This means that you must avoid wasting your precious time on things that are not worth it. But how can you do it? It’s pretty simple. You can make a checklist of all the crucial things. This way, you will know what you have to do before sleep, manage your time effectively, and track your progress.

6. Get Enough Sleep:

Burning the midnight oil to prepare for your exam might not be a great idea. To perform well in your exams, you must get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep. This will help to increase the memory retention, allowing you to remember information for a longer time span.

Evening Routine You can Follow the Night Before an Exam

Now that we have discussed the tips, it is also vital to make a timetable to ensure that you are not wasting your time. If you are still wondering how you can revise the night before an exam, then you can follow this routine:

Before 5:00 pm – Learn everything crucial for your test

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Take a break

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Revise everything you have studied using the Pomodoro technique

8:00 pm – Eat your supper

8:30 pm – 10:00 pm – Final revision (flashcards)

10:00 pm – Pack your things (pens, calculator)

10:30 pm – Sleep

You can make changes to this timetable according to your preferences.

In a Nutshell!

All in all, studying the night before an exam requires you to have a strategic and effective approach that helps you secure exceptional grades without feeling exhausted. To ensure that, you must follow these tips:

Take your own exam

Don’t learn anything new

Use the Pomodoro technique

Avoid caffeine

Manage your time effectively

Get enough sleep

If you follow these tips, you will definitely ace your CIPD exams.

Have you ever messed up your grade just because you didn’t know what you should do the night before an exam?
